President Obama Birth Certificate
Today it was announced that President Obama will allow the release of his long-form birth certificate to the public. This is clearly a response to the recent crap being spewed by Donald Trump, speculating that he may not have been born in the US. CNN has ran a two-night piece basically embarrassing Trump by debunking his arguments point after point. I enjoyed watching Donald Trump making an ass of himself in front of millions.
Ironically, the computerized birth certificate that all Hawaiian’s receive from the government, the same as had already been released by Obama, is considered MORE legal and authoritative than the original long-form one the President now being released.
I wish Obama had resisted the temptation of quieting this speculation. I am convinced that every time some degenerate “Birther” fueled the rumour Obama was not born in the US, another voter got behind the President. The Birther trend is an example of what is the absolute worst of modern politics. Groups finding legitimacy by simply making the most noise, riling up and enraging radicals, or worse drive fear into the hearts of the fence-sitters; truth be damned.
The mistake the President made today, at least in my opinion, is giving them a small victory by legitimizing them. He should have laughed in the face of Donald Trump, and do everything in his power to ignore the Birthers. From a pure tactical perspective, most of America associates Birthers with Republicans. I guess most Birthers are republicans, but certainly most Republicans are NOT Birthers. But it doesn’t serve Obama well politically to remind Americans of that.
So why did Obama capitulate? I haven’t even heard the statement yet but I can assure you it was for one reason only. To get the Country can get back to work focusing on what is important. The economy, the Middle East, Japan, and everything else an important person like Obama has to work with.
Obama would have been better served to ignore the Birthers and let Donald Trump continue to make an ass of himself. But Obama serves the Country and this is why he capitulated. That’s leadership in my opinion.
