$14.9 Billion reasons for this post
Yesterday revealed a number of interesting perspectives on the “crisis” that most of the PC government choose to ignore going on in healthcare. If you are not up to speed, simply read my last blog post. What was interesting last night, was watching the PC leadership candidates start to stack up on basically one side of the debate. That was not surprising. The only PC Leadership candidate that is in support (so far) of an independent inquiry, is Alison Redford.
When the Premier was asked about Redford’s support for an inquiry, he surprised even me by suggesting it simply puts her at equals with Raj Sherman and David Eggen (an Independent and an NDP he notes). Bus, meet Alison; Alison, meet bus. Please remember that this is the immediately past Minister of Justice, and a very highly respected politician. Obviously the Premier is not an Alison Redford supporter.
Also, PC Leadership Candidate Rick Orman called out Redford’s principles with this tweet:
“@josh_wingrove@alison4premier if she was principled she would have resigned or did she just discover principles now? #pcldr#ableg”
That’s pretty harsh, but not out of character for Orman who has been quite bold on Twitter so far.
My point, and there is one, is that there was not one credible reason to not have an independent inquiry into the serious allegations made my Dr. Duckett, other than the common theme argued by PC leadership contender Doug Griffiths.
“@ChrisLaBossiere I’m not protecting the party, but are we going to have an expensive public inquiry everytime there is an accusation?”
Now, I have to admit to being a huge Doug Griffiths fan. He continues to be the most open and engaging of all the PC Candidates. BUT, as you can tell from the tweet, I was suggesting that his resistance to supporting an independent inquiry was protecting the party over the public interest. I added that this was my opinion.
But I believe strongly that we need an inquiry to clear the air and restore public confidence in the government. I also think that the money spent doing so is money well spent.
We spend $14.9 Billion per year on healthcare. I am confident that spending a few sheckles of public money on dispelling these allegations, is money well spent. As more and more PC MLA’s line-up against it, I am only more desirous for the investigation.
If the dissenters of an investigation are correct, and Dr. Duckett is making up stories, then let an independent judicial inquiry determine that and PUNISH him.
